Limited-overs captain Shahid Afridi said he has declined the chances of his return to Test match cricket. Shahid Afridi who got appreciation in the world cup due to his good captaincy and is flamboyant allrounder, said in an interview with a private news channel late night Sunday that he would focus on getting some runs in the upcoming West Indies tour. “I will really work hard to improve my batting because it has been pretty bad for quite some time,” he said.“Even my daughter has started calling me Baba Boom Boom out because of my poor batting performance,” he added.
In the interview about Tendulkar’s out ‘Review’ in Semi -Final he said
“Ajmal was so confident but when I saw the replay of Tendulkar’s LBW, I
told him it was clearly going down leg.”
Afridi said “Either me or Razzaq should have batted up the order like Dhoni did in the final. I admit I made many mistakes.”
“Younis and Misbah helped me a lot with the field placements”.
Noting the recent improvement in his team, Afridi said that Pakistan could emulate the mighty Australians with proper planning and hard work.
“Our team has improved a lot recently and our performance in World Cup was commendable because we played it under pressure because of a series of setbacks before the tournament,” he said.
“I believe that if we continue the same progress we can become like the Aussies who were considered as invincible till a few years back,” he added.
To a question, Shahid Afridi, with a laugh said: “This is my last interview, I’m going to West Indies after this”.
To another question Afridi said the competition between Sarfaraz Ahmed and Mohammad Salman is like what had been between Rashid Latif and Moin Khan. “Hafeez has a lot of knowledge, always gives free advice, that’s why we call him Professor”.
Some experts, including former Pakistan captain Imran Khan, wanted Afridi to lead the national team in all three formats again.
Shahid Afridi is overwhelmed by the response from the pakistani fans. 300-400 people stand outside his house for autographs every day.
