Kings XI Punjab captain Adam Gilchrist has said that he is happy with the way his team has played so far in the fourth edition of the Indian Premier League.
He added that his team has equal chances of being crowned as the champions as any other big team of the cash-rich League.
Punjab are currently at the seventh spot in the points table with 6 points after five matches and they are going to face Kolkata Knight Riders in a crucial match of the League on Saturday at the Eden Gardens.
The former Australia
wicketkeeper said that his team is performing up to the mark so far and
they have a big chance in the League. He feels that T20 format is not
predictable and any team which plays well on the day can end up as the
winner. Gilchrist also
said that no team is out of the competition as yet.
Gilchrist said, “We are doing well and happy with the way things are
going. We have chances as good as any. This tournament is so
unpredictable; everyone is pinching points off each other.”
Kings XI Punjab have been heavily dependent on their top order batsmen Paul Valthaty,
Shaun Marsh and Gilchrist himself to post huge runs. Gilchrist admitted
that they have been dependent on the top three in the batting
department but he understands that
the whole batting unit would have to perform if Punjab are to do well
in the later stages of the tournament. However, he expressed
satisfaction on the performance of his top batsmen in the League so far.
“Other than our first game where we were all bowled out very quickly,
it's been the top three of us getting the lion's share of runs and had
the greatest opportunity. It's not a big concern. In a 14 game
tournament everybody will get a chance. And it's not
a bad complain to have when your top three are getting too many runs,”
the legendary cricketer added.
Gilchrist was previously the captain of Deccan Chargers and led his team to glory in the second edition of the IPL in South Africa. Let’s see whether Gilchrist can change the fortunes of Kings XI or not.
