The Mumbai Indians continued their supreme start to the Indian Premier League 2011 with a comprehensive nine-wicket win over the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
From the moment Lasith Malinga took a wicket with the first ball of the match to when Sachin Tendulkar and Ambati Rayadu constructed fine unbeaten half-centuries, Mumbai were in control as they made it two wins out of two.
Tendulkar, unbeaten on 55 in 46 balls, hit the winning runs with nine balls to spare as they put on 110 runs in 86 balls for the unbroken second wicket.
Rayadu hit nine fours in making a classy 63 not out in 50 balls while Tendulkar is yet to be dismissed this season having also batted through their first victory against the Delhi Daredevils.
Here they were handed a sterner test after Tillakaratne Dilshan's 59 not out in 52 balls and 38 from AB de Villiers had guided the Challengers to 140 for four.
They had been rocked when Malinga uprooted the stumps of Mayank Agarwal to get the game off to a flyer and World Cup winner Virat Kohli made just 12 before he fell to Kieron Pollard.
DIlshan and de Villiers' partnership of 91 for the third wickets was crucial but tight bowling from Mumbai ensured they were always at least 15 runs short.
Malinga and Pollard struck once more each to return two-wicket hauls. The only bowler on the mark for Bangalore was Dirk Nannes, who bowled Davey Jacobs for 22 in 16 balls, before leaving the field of play due to injury to make matters even more worse for the Challengers.
