KENYA REMOVES JIMMY KAMANDE AS TEAM CAPTAIN AFTER ICC WORLD CUP 2011

Kenya off-spinner Jimmy Kamande, who led the national side in an unsuccessful ICC World Cup 2011, has been removed from his captaincy role in the wake of the team’s dismal performance in the mega cricketing event.
Cricket Kenya chief executive, Tom Sears confirmed on Thursday that the board has taken the decision to remove Kamande as skipper following a review of the team’s performance in the show piece event.

"Cricket Kenya has taken the decision to stand down Jimmy Kamande as captain as part of the widespread changes we are making during our post World Cup review," said Sears while talking to the media reporters.
The associate side impressed the cricketing world with some stunning upsets against big teams in the previous editions of the high-profile tournament but failed miserably during in the latest edition. The Kamande-led side returned after losing all of its six World Cup matches to finish at the bottom of Group A.
Kamande’s sacking is the latest move by Cricket Kenya after the minnows returned winless from the high-profile tournament in the Subcontinent. Eldine Baptiste, the head coach of Kenya Cricket team was sacked as Kenya’s coach earlier in the week.
The CK chief executive emphasized that after two to three years of poor performance, the country sport needs a complete overhaul and for that it is necessary that the new management, coach and selectors, should start its role from the scratch.
"It's important that when the coach and selectors begin their roles they have a blank sheet of paper to work from. They will have an opportunity to assess all eligible players and identify those they feel have the ability, character and desire to be part of our future plans.
He said that since the national team does not have any scheduled assignment until July this year, they will utilise the time in restructuring the sport, which would include hiring of a new team coach as well as appointment of a new selection committee. Sears also confirmed that they would not announce a replacement for the captain at that stage.
