The Australian ‘A’ squad has been announced by its National Selection Panel for the forthcoming tour ofZimbabwe. The team will take part in a One Day International (ODI) tri-match series with South Africa ‘A’ and Zimbabwe, the tour will conclude with two four day matches against Zimbabwe.
They have announced two different teams for the shorter and longer forms of cricket and NSP Chairman, Andrew Hilditch, feels satisfied for the selection process and anticipates best results from the selected squad. He further commented:
"The squad is led by Tim Paine and with his vice-captain Callum Ferguson this presents as a great opportunity for them both to gain leadership experience and we are sure they will both be very successful in these roles”.
Australia will be facing Sri Lanka and South Africa in August-September this year and they are keen to get positive results from their ‘A’ team, which can enable them to pick the required strength in bowling and batting department.
Jason Krejza and Michael Beer will take charge of their spin bowling while trust has been shown on Ben Hilfenhaus, who can regain his form on the tour.
They have provided chances to a few of the players, who have already represented Australia, and, would be able to groom further on the tour. They include the tour Captain, Tim Paine, Usman Khawaja, and Phillip Huges, who have all played Test cricket for Australia.
The fast bowling will revolve around Hilfenhaus, who is the senior most campaigner, along with Mitchell Starc, Luke Butterworth, and, Trent Copeland, as two promising all-rounders, Mitch Marsh, and, James Faulknerhave also been included.
They have a strong batting line-up, which is capable of scoring against any type of bowling, Andrew Hilditchfurther narrated:
"The batting line-up includes a strong blend of both youth and experience. David Warner, Paine and Ferguson have all had good exposure at the highest level and their experience will be of great benefit to the younger members of the squad such as Nic Maddinson and Chris Lynn who we consider to have the potential to succeed at international level”.
The team tour management consists of, Brian McFadyen, as team manager, and, Troy Cooley, as their coach. Tim Paine has got lot of confidence from the selectors and will be leading the team in both formats of the game.
