Chennai Super Kings march on in Indian Premier League with hard fought win over Kochi Tuskers Kerala

CSK 152/5 20 overs | KTK 141/5 20 overs
Chennai Super Kings recorded an impressive win over Kochi Tuskers Kerala as they march on towards the defence of their title in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Super Kings, led by the talismanic Indian captainMS Dhoni, gave plenty to cheer to their home fans who had thronged in at Chepauk to see their local stars in action against the much improved Kochi team.
The win was not that straight forward for the hosts; batting first they posted at best, a par score of 152 in the allotted 20 overs.
Murali Vijay and Suresh Raina made useful contributions of 16 and 19 runs respectively, yet failed to carry on for long. Michael Hussey, who opens for Super Kings with Vijay, scored a useful 32 off 37 balls, anchoring the team in face of some accurate bowling by the visitors.
S. Badrinath, who won a call up to the Indian team for the tour of West Indies, perished for 13 runs only. The innings was given much needed impetus by WP Saha who blasted 46 off 33 balls only, his innings was studded with 1 four and 3 sixes and included some sharply run singles and twos.
The Super Kings ended their quota of overs at 152/5, a score that was set to challenge the Tuskers.
Kochi lost captain and wicket keeper Parthiv Patel early on, the left hander scored 6 runs only. The main hope at this stage was Brendon McCullum, the clean striking New Zealander. McCullum scored 33 off 37 balls, he was tied down for most part of the innings and failed to get the big boundaries he is renowned for.
His demise added pressure on the visitors who struggled to keep the run rate going. Brad Hodge kept them in the game with the help of two sixes in the penultimate over of the innings bowled by Dwayne Bravo.
19 runs were needed off the final over of their innings. Doug Bollinger bowled a brilliant over, conceding only 8 runs to give his team an 11-run win.
