Clouds loom over Geoff Marsh’s future as Pune Warriors India’s coach

Clouds loom over Geoff Marsh’s future as Pune Warriors India’s coach

The Pune Warriors' coach, Geoff Marsh’s future with the franchise looks quite uncertain after the dismal performance of the Indian Premier League debutants in the latest edition of the Twenty20 league.
Well placed sources inside the franchise have claimed that owner of the franchise, Mr. Subrata Roy will soon take a call on the future of the team coach and other members of the support staff.
"It will be the owner's call. The franchise model demands that non-performers will have to make way for someone new,” claimed a source on Monday.
“If one has a look at the team, the Pune Warriors had the best domestic setup and this sort of result is unacceptable," the source added further.
The former Australia opener, who enjoyed a successful stint with the Aussies as coach, leading them to World Cup titles and Ashes wins, has been a complete failure in the shortest format of the game.
It has been learnt that the franchise management have issues the way he handled his resources as they believe his "lack of assertiveness" was one of the key reasons behind the dismal show of Yuvraj Singh-led side.
"He was soft in his approach. He could never make it clear as to what exactly he wanted from his players," said the source.
With nine defeats in 14 games, the Pune side finished ninth in the 10-team tournament - just above DelhiDaredevils.
However, the fact that this was franchise’s ever first tournament can go in Marsh’s favour and the management might consider giving the Australian a second chance with the team.
It has also been learnt that after a pathetic first season, the owners are now keen on making a fresh start with a clean slate next year.
Whilst it is confirm that the former England all-rounder, Dermot Reeve will be sacked for the next season, assistant coach, Praveen Amre is likely to be retained.
Reeve’s contribution in the month-and-a-half long campaign has been minimal and the owners do not find any reason to persist with him. However, the management is happy with the efforts Amre has put in and are seriously deliberating over retaining him for the next season, claimed the sources.
