Most of the spectators at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) stadium prefer to get seats close to the cheerleaders.
It has been reported by the ticket selling crew at the venue and the trend remained persistent during the last two matches.
Talking to the media, the HCPA president, Anurag Thakur, told, “The other day, one of my staff members at the counters selling match tickets told me that some fans came in with unique request.”
The trend of using female cheerleaders during matches has received much popularity in India. Almost all the IPL franchises have their cheerleaders who entertain crowd and players with dances during games.
These cheerleaders hail from different parts and races of the world. Some belong to Europe and others come from the African region.
These cheerleaders attract more and more spectators. It has been observed that even the non-cricket lovers turn towards IPL venues just for the dancing girls.
Thakur said, “When they were asked which stand they wanted tickets for, they replied ‘who cheergirlswala stand’ (the stand where the cheergirls are). This just goes to show that the spectators love them.”
The HPCA is the most beautiful cricket venue in India with a live pitch and a marvellous outfield. The city of Dharmsala is 5000 feet above the sea level and has a very pleasant atmosphere.
Most of the Indians are visiting Dharamsala to combine cricket with picnic.
The IPL has introduced the venue at a global level and now the stadium hopes to get the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) recognition.
In the IPL-4, the HPCA stadium was scheduled to host three games. Two have been played and one will be held on Saturday, May 21.
Moreover, the city is hosting the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader, Dalai Lama.
The cheerleaders have doubled the beauty and charm of Dharamsala. They have become a major source of attraction for the natives who have chance to entertain themselves with cricket and dance at the same time.
However, some of the cheerleaders have reportedly alleged harassment by the spectators. But overall, the trend is going very positive and helpful in the promotion of the tournament.
