Marsh: We have no excuses

Pune coach Geoff Marsh feels his team got what they deserved during this season's Indian Premier League as they haven't played good cricket.

The Warriors are second from bottom in the IPL standings after winning only four of their 13 games during their debut campaign.

Marsh feels although they've been able to compete bowling wise in most matches, the batsmen have let the team down throughout the tournament.

"We have no excuses," he is quoted by thePress Trust of India. "We have not played good cricket (during the tournament). Our bowling unit has been consistent but our batting group has been inconsistent and has struggled to score runs."

Pune's latest defeat was a seven-wicket loss against the Kolkata Knight Riders on Thursday. After being asked to bat first, the hosts could only manage 118 for seven on a turning track and Kolkata chased it down for the loss of just three wickets in 16.4 overs.

Former Australian player Marsh admits they were always going to be up against it after slumping to 79 for five.

"The batting was disappointing," Marsh said. "You cannot win a game after scoring 118. We lost early wickets. The boys are also disappointed. We feel for the spectators too, it was a near full house.

"We lost early wickets, have been losing four-five wickets early. When you lose wickets you are under pressure. Their bowlers also bowled well."

Robin Uthappa cost Pune a whopping $2.1 million during the IPL auction but he has failed to impress with the bat in 13 matches, scoring 264 runs at an average of 26.40.

Marsh feels the decision to move him up and down the order didn't have much of an impact on his lean run.

"When you are not scoring runs you can bat anywhere. He should be a good enough player to get runs anywhere," he said.

"We have all been trying very hard, may be too hard."
