Trevor Penny, the former coach and cricketer, is likely to be appointed as fielding coach of India.
The newly appointed Chief Coach, Duncan Fletcher, plans to make the Indian team rock-solid.
Despite the fact that Team India is ranked-first in Test and second in ODI rankigs of the world, many cricket experts believe that their fielding department is lacking.
The Men in Blue have been without a full-time fielding coach for the last couple of years and this has affected their fielding strategy and stamina to a great extent.
Possessing vast coaching experience, Penny has worked as a part timer with Fletcher in England and the two share good coordination.
Penny then joined Sri Lanka as an assistant coach to Tom Moody and played an important role there.
He also has experience with Indian conditions since he worked with Moody for the IPL franchise, Kings XIPunjab.
As a player, Penny played for the English County side, Warwickshire, for 17 years. He also played the Ashes 2005 for the England national team.
Considering all his talents, Fletcher, who replaced Gary Kirsten a month back, wants to bring Penny to India.
Gary resigned from his Indian job after bestowing World Cup glory on the Men in Blue.
According to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) sources, Penny will join Team India for their upcoming tour to West Indies for a bilateral series. The tour will begin from June 4, 2011.
Team India has become the first nation in the history of cricket to lift the ICC World Cup trophy at home. Now the defending champions want to perpetuate this winning legacy in the future series and tournaments.
The appointment of Fletcher and Penny is a part of an effort to further build up the team on solid lines and make them invincible.
India’s bowling and batting departments are well-structured. Now the fielding side will also perk up after Penny’s appointment.
The 42-year-old Zimbabwean has enough experience and skills to share with the Blue shirts.
