The rising star of the Indian cricket team, Virat Kohli, is now planning to enter into Test cricket, after earningmuch popularity in One-Day internationals.
The former India coach, Gary Kirsten, also confirmed that the young player is ready to play the Test format of the sport.
The 22-year-old made his ODI debut in the year 2008, against Sri Lanka at Dambulla.
The right-arm batsman earned a great name in a short time period and was also a part of India’s World Cup winning side.
He was an asset for India throughout the World Cup. In his debut World Cup match, he scored a century against Bangladesh.
Kohli has featured in 51 ODIs, scoring 1954 runs at an average of 44.40, including 13 fifties and 5 centuries.
His best ODI batting performance was seen against Australia, where he scored 118 runs.
In addition, the World Cup winning celebrity has also played three T20 Internationals scoring 54 runs.
He has been an active part of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL), playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Playing 14 innings of the fourth edition of IPL, he is currently the second highest run scorer overall and is the second highest scorer for his side, amassing 514 runs at an average of 51.40.
With such achievements in ODI and Twenty20, the youngster wants to take the Test cap. "My main aim since childhood is Test cricket. It depends on when I get a chance, but my ultimate target is to play Tests,"
Bangalore has been at the top of the IPL standings, but unfortunately it could not get through the first Qualifying Final against Chennai Super Kings.
Kohli, while talking about his side’s defeat from Chennai, said that it was a disappointing loss, especially after putting in great effort.
He asserted that they were lacking a strong bowling attack against their opponents.
However, Kohli said that his team should move on and focus on their next game against Mumbai Indians, in the second Qualifying Final.
