Collective batting failure let India down against England, says Rahul Dravid – Cricket News Update
India’s ace batsman, Rahul Dravid, has admitted that it was a collective batting failure which led India to an embarrassing series defeat against England.
A dismal show of skills by the entire Indian batting line-up except Dravid, who scored unbeaten 146 in the first innings, pushed the tourists towards follow-on in the ongoing final Test at the Oval.
Trailing the series 0-3, the Men in Blue are on the brink of a whitewash, as England will have to claim seven more wickets on the final day of the Oval Test in bid to seal the series 4-0.
Dravid’s fantastic show with the bat remained a complete contrast to the miserable performance by his teammates throughout the series, as India's big batting guns such as Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir, VVS Laxman and Suresh Raina failed to make an impact.
Conceding the reality that they were outclassed by a much better side, Dravid cited a disastrous show by the whole crew as the biggest cause of India’s loss.
"Sadly, collectively it`s been a tough tour. Generally 2-3 guys succeed in every series, people have bad tours but this is rare all batsmen have not played as a unit which is sad.  We`ve been found wanting against a better team and we need to look at the set of skills we have and how we need to get better at it," said Dravid.
Despite the fact that India-England clash seemed like a battle between the boys and the men, the right-handed batsman claimed that that there was no lack of effort by his teammates, as the players tried their best to keep things under control but remained unsuccessful.
Meanwhile, he shared that even though the humiliating loss has dented team's confident, it has given Team India a huge opportunity to analyse its strengths and weaknesses.
“There are lessons to be learnt. We were not up to scratch and they showed us. There are lessons to be learnt, things to work upon and get better," added the veteran batsman who surpassed Sunil Gavaskar by scoring his 35th Test hundred during the fourth Test.
