Sourav Ganguly, the former skipper and batting superstar of India
Cricket Team, has been invited by Celebrity Management Group (CMG) to
watch a FIFA friendly football match that is scheduled to be held at
Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata on September 2.
Keeping in view the fact that Ganguly is a fervent fan of the game, the match organisers have sent him a special invitation to come and enjoy the live action that is being anticipated to be full of thrill and zeal.
Talking to the media, the Chief Executive Officer of CMG said, “We have decided to invite Sourav Ganguly for the match on September 2 as we all know that he is an ardent football fan.”
The director, Bhaswar Goswami, told, “The chief ministers of Meghalaya, Mizoram and Jharkhand have also expressed their wish to come here and witness the match. Apart from this, lot of Bollywood personalities will also be present.”
The former cricketer has been a regular football viewer and an occasional player since his boyhood. He used to play the game at the college level but took it merely a pastime as he was interested in forging a strong career in cricket.
As football is a crucial part of fielding practices, Ganguly has been enjoying it under nets throughout his resplendent cricket career.
Interestingly, Team India, which have recently lost 4-Test npower series against England, were severely criticised by the Indian media when they were seen playing football instead of focusing on their ‘flawed’ batting and bowling departments during the practice session at Trent Bridge ahead of their 2nd Test.
Ganguly’s former team have disgracefully lost their hard-won top spot in international Test rankings after losing the series.
Ganguly, who had been in the commentary boxes during all four matches, has expressed deep sorrow on this demise of Team India.
The 39-year-old, who is known as ‘Dada’ in India for his cricketing heroics, played 113 Tests and 311 ODIs during his career span of 16 years.
He led the Kolkata Knight Riders in the first three editions of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Now, he is likely to join the Pune Warriors’ camp as a captain or coach.
