Discarded young middle-order batsman, Umar Amin
has admitted that he failed to make the best of the opportunities that
he got at the international level but vows to make a comeback to the
national team by performing in the domestic cricket.
Umar was selected for Pakistan’s tour of England last year and the
left hander player four Test matches for the Green Shirts. He got the
attention of a number of cricket experts, who rated him as a very
talented batsman. However, Amin failed to make the
best used of the opportunities.
Since then, Umar has been performing well in the domestic cricket of
Pakistan but the selectors have ignored him as they feel that the left
hander has been given enough opportunities.
Amin confessed that he had a great chance to cement his place in the
national team but said that the conditions in England were not easy for
batting. However, the left hander is hopeful of a bright future ahead.
He said, “Honestly, after the England
tour I am only disappointed in the way I performed on that tour. I have
no hard feelings for not being given a chance and being dropped as I
feel I had ample chances with 4 test matches. The tough conditions made
it
hard for me, but Inshallah [God willing] when I get my next opportunity
in international cricket I hope to show a lot more maturity and
composure.”
There is no doubt about the talent of Amin but one should also
question the national selectors, who tested him in the most trying
circumstances in England, where the ball tends to swing all day. Amin
also pointed out the fact that the youngsters in Pakistan
do not have any opportunity to play home matches, which is a great hurdle for their progress at international level.
“In the past, a young player would have had the benefit of playing on
their home grounds where they are used to the conditions, but we
certainly don't have that advantage,” Amin added.
The next domestic season in Pakistan is about to start and Amin will be looking to prove a point to the selectors once again.
