Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), on Tuesday announced its 15-member squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy to be held in Mumbai from March 23-27. The former Indian skipper, Sourav Ganguly has been retained as captain, and the side will be defending their title.
The CAB general secretary, Biswarup Dey, told media reporters that after a successful Vijay Hazare campaign, the former Indian opener was an obvious choice to lead the side in the Twenty20 tournament.
"Ganguly's selection is obvious,” said Biswarup Dey while speaking to media reporters after announcing the squad on Tuesday. “He led us to the national one-dayers title in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He said he was okay with it," the CAB general secretary added further.
Whilst the selectors have retained a majority of the Vijay Hazare trophy squad, they do see the return of Manoj Tiwary to the side. His inclusion in the squad for the Mushtaq Ali Trophy will be a huge boost for Bengal. The other two new faces included in the squad are all-rounders Aritra Chatterjee and Alok Sharma.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Cricket Association selectors have also announced the squad for the domestic Twenty20 tournament. The MCA selectors have retained Ajit Agarkar as the captain for the tournament.
