IPL is like Rock music-Sidhu

Former Indian cricketer, Navjot Singh Sidhu, has complimented the Indian Premier League (IPL) by comparing it with rock music, claiming that e event has cthertainly re-invented world cricket. The fifth edition of the IPL is scheduled to begin from April 4, with the first match taking place between defending champions Chennai Super Kings, and Mumbai India.

“IPL is like rock music. It's rocking the nation," said Sidhu.

The cricketer turned politician, during the launching ceremony of his new program “Extra Innings T20”, said that the IPL is the most striking event of the world of cricket as it attracts the world’s best players. Sidhu further compared the event with the simplest and easiest acquisition of delicious food at home which is earned without dropping sweat in kitchen.

"IPL is a different product, it's a changing time. IPL is like the shining sun of world cricket” he said.

The 48-year-old witty commentator heaped praised on the organizers, who are making special efforts to improve the event every year, giving the fans the best entertainment they can get.

“To make a good name is easy but to sustain it's different. IPL is sustaining as it has moved the world and brought pride back to India. It has changed cricket governance and administration," he said.

The inaugural competition took place in 2007, which was won by Rajasthan Royals. This term, nine teams will participate in the tournament, featuring a perfect blend of local and international players, who will battle for the top honours in a two-month grueling period.

According to Sidhu, IPL has benefited the country in many ways, one including the change in scenario where cricketers are willing to come to India – which remains a great achievement.

" If you look 15 years back, cricketers used to visit England for greener pastures and earn money. Now the scenario has changed and the players are heading to India. India has become mecca of world cricket."

This exciting league has further inspired other countries to stage their own T20 events – with the likes of Australia, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh all making efforts to form their own leagues and bring in international stars.
