Ravichandran Ashwin, the right-arm off spinner, admitted that his side, the Chennai Super Kings will be under tremendous pressure in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League.
CSK are the two time defending champions of the IPL. Ashwin feels that it would be a tough task to repeat their performance for the third time. However, the off-spinner has the utmost faith in his side’s abilities and has backed them to lift their game at the precise moment.
Referring to the slow start in IPL4, Ashwin said, “This is going to be a most interesting season for CSK because we have lot of pressure on us to defend the title. It is more of league phases and peaking at the right time. Last season we peaked at the right time. We will have to look to do the same.”
Despite his confidence in the team, there were certain factors that were brothering the 25-year-old cricketer from Madras. According to Ashwin, the prime concern for the CSK will be keeping players fresh and fit, as a tight schedule lies ahead.
Out of the 16 league games that the Chennai Super Kings will be involved in, 10 will be played during the month of April. Playing these many matches and with few days off between games, fatigue and injuries are regular occurrences.
“We have some injury concerns. That is what we have to watch out for. More so there will be back-to back matches and in early April which we have to be wary of,” said Ashwin, who was hoping that CSK overcome these hurdles.
Chennai Super Kings IPL5 campaign starts with a match against the Mumbai Indians. It will take place on Wednesday, April 4 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
