Ajinkya Rahane, the 23-year-old batsman from Maharashtra, has said that the skipper of the Rajasthan Royals, Rahul Dravid, does not complicate things and keeps them as simple as possible.
Comparing Dravid’s approach with his predecessor, the great Australian cricketer, Shane Warne, Rahane said that the Aussie international relied on his instincts and sometimes made abrupt decisions, unlike Dravid who has a set of plans and follows them rigorously.
However, Rahane held that despite the different styles both are great leaders. He said, “Shane Warne used to take some instinctive decisions and surprise us by doing something which we had never expected. Rahul Dravid is keeping everything as simple as he can. Both are good captains and excellent players.”
Dravid has been given the responsibility of leading the Rajasthan Royals in the fifth edition of the Indian Premier League, as Warne has retired from professional cricket. The right-handed batsman has had a good start to his reign, and he has led the Royals to two wins in two games.
Their next clash is against the Mumbai Indians, one of the top contenders for the IPL5 trophy. The match will be a homecoming for Rahane, who started his career with MI and still plays for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy.
The 23-year-old is looking forward to the match which is going to be played at the Wankhede Stadium, the home ground of the MI. He said, “Playing at the Wankhede Stadium is always a special moment for me. I started my cricket career here and have played a lot of matches here.”
Rahane is hopeful that Rajasthan will be able to pull-off a win and widen the gap at top of the table.
Hoping to subdue Mumbai on Wednesday, April 11, Rahane said, “We know Mumbai Indians are a very strong team. It's a very important game for us. We have got the early momentum and would try and keep out consistency intact and keep it as simple as possible.”
Rahane, who played a bristling knock of 98 runs against Kings XI Punjab, vows to score more runs in this edition of the IPL and has not taken his place in the Royals playing XI for granted.
