Rahul Dravid lauds Rajasthan’s team spirit

The Rajasthan Royals' skipper, Rahul Dravid, hailed his team’s fighting spirit, after the side regained the top spot on IPL5's points table with an astounding five-wicket win over bottom placed Deccan Chargers at home ground, the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur on Tuesday, April 17, 2012.

“It feels nice when you see youngsters performing,” said the Rajasthan skipper after five wicket win over Chargers. “We have got good spirit in the team at the moment and we are on a bit of a roll,” he added further.

Chasing a daunting total of 196 set by Kumar Sangakkara-led Deccan Chargers, Rahul Dravid and Ajinkya Rahane launched a blistering run chase with an opening stand of 62 runs. But the hosts lost some quick wickets in the middle and seemed a bit troubled before Brad Hodge took the responsibility and took the side home quite comfortably with five wickets and two balls to spare. The Australian, who was later named the Man of the Match, played a whirlwind unbeaten knock of 48 runs from just 21 balls, entertaining the home crowd with six muscular boundaries and two lofty sixes.

Dravid praised Brad Hodge for his match winning knock, “Hodge’s innings in the end was a masterclass... It’s the only form of the game (T20s) I’m playing now, so I better do well,” said the 39-year-old former India captain, who bid farewell to international cricket last month.

Pleased with his batsmen’s fighting spirit, Dravid did not look satisfied with the performance of his bowlers.

“I think that today we were a bit lucky with this game. Our batsmen did well… But I don’t think that we bowled as well as we could have,” said the Madhya Pradesh right-hander.

Man of the Match, Rajasthan Royals' Australian import, Brad Hodge, expressed satisfaction over his personal form so far. The 37-year-old Victorian played for the defunct Kochi Tuskers Kerala last season and had amassed more than 300 runs.

The victory took rampaging Royals back to the top of the IPL5 standings, while Chargers are yet to open their account, having lost all of the three games played so far this season.
