Indian all-rounder, Irfan Pathan, has wished national teammate Yuvraj Singh a speedy recovery and has praised the player for his fighting spirit, both on and off the field.
"He (Yuvraj) is a fighter in cricket and on the field. And he is a fighter in a real life too. The whole world is praying for him,” said the left-arm pacer.
The 30-year-old cricketer was diagnosed with a rare germ cell cancer last year and has recently returned home, following a two and a half month treatment period in America.
"I`m praying for his complete recovery and am going to meet him soon. My whole family is praying and everyone want him on the ground," Irfan said during an event.
Yuvraj has received ample support and encouragement from all corners, including members of the national team and other renowned sports personalities, along with Bollywood celebs. Anil Kumble, Sachin Tendulkar, Lance Armstrong and Amitabh Bachchan are among a few of his well-wishers, constantly following the all-rounder’s recovery.
The middle-order batsman has been the main stay in the ODI team for the Men in Blue, helping his team to many high-profile triumphs, most recently being last year’s World Cup, where he also collected the Player of the Tournament accolade.
After making his ODI debut against Kenya in 2000, the 30-year-old has featured in 274 Internationals. His last appearance for the national team came in the home Test series against West Indies, after which he took an indefinite break from International cricket in order to get cancer treatment.
During Yuvraj’s absence, the Indians have been poor on their travels, beaten resoundingly by the Australians before failing to defend their Asia Cup crown. His recovery is on track and his fans are anxiously waiting for Yuvi to make a winning return to competitive cricket.
Despite calls for caution by the player’s father, the left-hander is expected to be included for his side’s next home assignment against New Zealand in August this year, and will be keen to be a part of the national team’s squad for the ICC World T20 Cup, scheduled to take place in Sri Lanka in September.
