Indian pacer, Ashok Dinda, said that the Men in Blue were indeed superior to hosts Sri Lanka in the Only T20I, played at Pallekele, and was further pleased to contribute in a winning cause after taking 4 for 19, which helped the team to earn a straightforward 39-run victory.
After winning the ODI series 4-1, the tourists were thoroughly impressive in their final game of the tour, putting in an all-round performance to dun down the Lankans. After being inserted in, Virat Kohli again led the assault with an imposing half-century before the inform Irfan Pathan’s early good work with the ball was carried by Dinda, who wrapped up the match by taking a three-wicket maiden.
Dinda had a disappointing time with the ball during the 50-over series, where he took plenty of stick from the Lankan batters. In the three matches, he averaged 39.75 with ball with the economy rate of 6.71. However, he showed excellent composure to bounce back in the T20 arena, bowling a tight length to restrict the Lankan run-flow in the middle-overs, while further taking out the prized scalp of Angelo Mathews.
He then took three more – Dinesh Chandimal, Shaminda Eranga and Lasith Malinga – all in one over to end with an impressive four-wicket haul. His figures were the second best by an Indian bowler in the T20 arena.
"The kind of wicket this was, any amount of runs could have been chased so we had that tension too [while defending the total] but in the end we bowled well, fielded well and we won," Dinda said. "We have been playing a lot of cricket in domestic matches and IPL."
The pacer, who received praise from Allan Donald during this year’s Indian Premier League, added that his strength has always been the short-ball, which has earned him plenty of success.
“No batsman thinks that the ball will come into the body at this height at 140 kph so in that sense the short ball is a surprise. If the batsman tries to hit, it can go for a six or a four also but at the same time the chances of getting a wicket are also high,” Dinda added.
