Batting is India’s strength, feels Kapil De

Kapil Dev, the former Indian skipper, believes that a strong batting line-up will be the country’s biggest strength in the ICC World T20 2012 and urged Mahendra Singh Dhoni and company to focus on one game at a time without getting complacent.

Having beaten Sri Lanka by a handsome margin of 26 runs in their first warm-up fixture on Saturday, the Men in Blue will take on the arch-rivals Pakistan in their second practice game on Monday, before officially starting their campaign on September 19th against Afghanistan.

Dhoni’s men also have England in their pool, who are the defending champions following a win against Australia in the final of the mega-event, held in the Caribbean in 2010.

Momentum, in the former captain’s opinion, is always crucial in big tournaments and said that India must be extremely professional from the very first match.

The former World Cup winning captain believes that the Men In Blue have a massive advantage over other teams in the batting department, in the presence of some world-class players like Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh and Dhoni himself.

"Getting off to a good start in the tournament will be a key thing and then should think about the later part of the tournament. India's biggest strength is the batting,” said Kapil. “Every team has 1-2 match winning batsmen, but India have around 5-6 batsmen who can turn the match all by themselves. But then, they will have to avoid complacency."

The former all-rounder was all praise for Yuvraj, who has returned to the international sport after fighting with cancer earlier this year. The left-hander made his long awaited comeback in the second T20I loss to New Zealand, where he scored a solid 34 before making 11 in the practice match against the hosts.

"Everyone is talking about it, but then for me his comeback is more than whatever he does on the field. It is not about scoring 100 or 50 or taking five wickets but the spirit that he has showed,” the legendary cricketer added.
