After losing the three-match One Day International (ODI) series to Australia by 2-1 on Monday, Pakistan’s T20 skipper Mohammad Hafeez is aiming to make amends in the three-match T20I series, beginning from Wednesday, September 05.
Hafeez while talking to reporters said, “It's disappointing not to win the one-day series but the confidence is still high that we have got a good Twenty20 side and I am confident that we can beat Australia."
Taking the series against Australia as a great practice before flying off to Sri Lanka for the upcoming World T20I Championship, he said, “These matches give both teams a good chance to settle for the mega event."
Spinner Saeed Ajmal, was the most effective bowler against Australia in the one-day series and Hafeez while admitting that the spinner will be a key individual in the T20 series, insisted that Pakistan would not be relying on the spinner as other bowlers will have to chip in.
“Ajmal is a world class bowler but we are not depending on him alone. I think other bowlers must support him from the other end," said the right-hand opening batsman.
Hafeez had a great ODI series where he was outstanding in the finale, hammering an innings of 78 runs.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s T20 squad has been boosted by the arrival of pacer Umar Gul, all-rounder Abdul Razzaq, Imran Nazir, Mohammad Sami and Yasir Arafat.
Australia have also called in Shane Watson, pacers Ben Hilfenhaus, Clint McKay and Pat Cummins for the series.
