Praveen Kumar not happy at being snubbed by selectors

The out of favour Indian medium-fast bowler, Praveen Kumar, is extremely disappointed at being ignored by the selectors during the just-finished Test series against New Zealand and also for the ICC World T20 2012, which is scheduled to begin next week in Sri Lanka.

Kumar, 25, after catching the selectors’ eyes in domestic cricket, made his way to international cricket in 2007 and remained a permanent member of the Indian limited-over side till early this year.

The medium-fast bowler, who is known for his ability to drastically swing the ball in the air, made his Test debut last year during the series against West Indies, doing well in the limited opportunities he received at the game’s ultimate level.

The cricketer from Meerut injured his rib after the England tour in 2011, which ruled him out of series against West Indies at home as well as the tour of Australia. Kumar played the Asia Cup 2012, held in Bangladesh this year, but was ignored for the series against Sri Lanka, New Zealand and also for the World T20.

The seam bowler has failed to gain the selectors’ confidence for the Irani Cup, not being given a chance for the Rest of India squad. Praveen is not happy with this treatment by the authorities but vows to return to international cricket after proving his worth in the upcoming domestic season.

"I was hoping to get a call for the New Zealand series but that didn't happen. I was a bit disappointed not to find a place in the ROI side too," Praveen said. "At the moment I'm looking forward to the Challenger Trophy [the domestic one-day tournament featuring India's best limited-overs players], as it will be the only competitive cricket for me."

The 25-year-old cricketer has so far played 6 Tests, 68 One Day Internationals and 10 T20 Internationals for India and has grabbed more than a hundred scalps. He can also contribute with the bat, having already scored a half-century in the 50-over format.

"Sometimes I sit and wonder about why I'm not there in the Indian side. It's frustrating to be sidelined," he concluded.
