South Africa name Du Plessis as T20 captain

South Africa name Du Plessis as T20 captain – Cricket News Update
South Africa have named the limited-over squads for the upcoming T20I and ODI series against Pakistan, further installing Faf Du Plessis as the permanent captain in the shortest format.
Du Plessis’ appointment meant that the Proteas will have three separate captains for each format, with Graeme Smith leading the Test side, while AB de Villiers performing the ODI duties. The decision was mainly taken after the board accepted de Villiers’ request to step down from the role. The player will now perform dual role in the Test and T20 format, playing as a batsman and keeping wickets.
The shuffle meant that Quinton de Kock, who made his T20 debut in the previous home series against New Zealand and kept wickets in the absence of de Villiers, lost his ODI spot as the team preferred to accommodate aggressive left-hander David Miller.
"AB has expressed that sometimes he feels that he is not sure about T20 cricket so we have decided to give Faf the leadership," South Africa coach Gary Kirsten said. "The decision to make AB keep again is because we feel that is our strongest combination. Quinton de Kock will learn from the chances he had and he will be back at some point. "
Jacques Kallis was again omitted from both squads as the selectors look to manage his workload. Dale Steynand Morne Morkel are also not a part of the T20 group, but will join the team for the ODI bouts.
Hashim Amla was another notable omission from the T20 lineup, after deciding to stand down from the vice-captaincy role. It will be du Plessis’ first official series as the T20 captain, although he led the side against New Zealand.
The first T20I will be played on March 1, while the tour concludes on March 24 when both teams battle in the fifth and final ODI.
