Chennai Super Kings (CSK) coach, Stephen Fleming, has said that he and his team are wary about the fact that law of averages might push them down in the points table despite their good run in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).
The Super Kings have won eight out of their 12 games so far in the tournament. With 16 points, the Chennai side is sitting at the second spot in the standings and Fleming is aiming to finish it off on a high.
"We want to do something differently. Any team wants to be one and two on points table because running into the final is so much better and we win the next two games and back in Chennai for the final. It`s a fantastic run", Fleming said.
The coach specified his team will look to finish the first-round among the top two teams, as the third and fourth place side will have to play one extra game to make it into the final.
The former New Zealand skipper further cited his team’s next two games, as very crucial, as, the results will finalise their position in the standings.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni and co. are scheduled to play against Kochi Tuskers Kerala in their own backyard, MA Chidambaram stadium, today on May 18, 2011.
Chennai holds a flawless track record at home, winning all six home games in the ongoing competition and the former Kiwi batsman hoped the players would continue with the winning momentum in today’s game.
"We have been working hard for winning our home matches. At the same time, we do not take it for granted and certainly it is no different tomorrow. We have taken a few days off and another win on your home ground is important for the competition. It is obviously fine and we can finish off the season without losing at home", he stated on the eve of the match.
On the other hand, the Kochi side, which will play the last game of their debut IPL campaign, are eager to finish it on a winning note.
However, Fleming is confident that apart from home advantage, team-unity will help his side outclass the opposition in the epic encounter.
