Ijaz Butt, chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has asked the Interior Ministry to provide them assurance on security, in order for resumption of cricket in the country.
Butt has discussed the matter with Pakistan's Interior Minister, Rehman Malik, during a meeting in Islamabad on May 19, 2011.
"We have asked the interior ministry to give us assurances on security so that we can revive international cricket in Pakistan", Butt said.
On March 3, 2009 terrorists attacked Sri Lanka’s team when they were going to Gaddafi stadium in Lahore.
After the terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan team, Pakistan has not hosted international cricket, as teams refuse to visit Pakistan, which is affecting the scope of cricket in Pakistan.
Team Pakistan is playing their home series at a neutral venue. PCB had hosted their home series against New Zealand, South Africa, and, West Indies in United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Last year, Pakistan has also played a home Test series against Australia in England.
Now, Afghanistan’s team is all set to play a One Day International (ODI) series against Pakistan ‘A’ at the end of this month in Pakistan.
The chairman of the governing body in Pakistan has also confirmed that they will make sure to provide full security to the Afghan national team during the series.
"We are endeavouring to revive international cricket in Pakistan and the Afghanistan series, although not a big one will be the step towards that", he said.
Islamabad will host the first match of the series on May 25. The 2nd ODI will be played in Rawalpindi on May 27 and the last match of the series will be played in Faisalabad.
Meanwhile, PCB is eager to resume cricketing affairs with India, as they are trying to play a series with their neighbours at a neutral venue after Indian reservations to visit Pakistan.
"We are trying our best to arrange a series with India either in December this year or early next year", the PCB boss stated.
