Lancashire cruise to victory against Yorkshire

Lancashire cruise to victory against Yorkshire

Lancashire overcame Yorkshire by six wickets in a match of the County Championship Division One, at the Aigburth, Liverpool in England.
The hosts were given a target of 121 runs, which they achieved easily at the end, losing just four batsmen.
Yorkshire were put into bat by the home team’s skipper, Glen Chapple. The pitch had some moisture beneath and batting was difficult in the first couple of hours of play, which resulted in trouble for the visitors.
Only three batsmen in Yorkshire’s first innings managed to reach double figures. The top score came from opening batsman, Joe Sayers, who batted brilliantly for his 53 runs. He showed good technique against the swing and seam bowling and didn’t throw his wicket away like his team-mates.
Apart from Sayers, the Yorkshire captain, Andrew Gale, also impressed a lot. He wasn’t able to capitalize onto the start he got to his innings, but looked good in the middle for his 31 runs.
The only other batsman to reach double figures was, Adil Rashid, who ended up with 14 runs.
The visitors were restricted to 141 runs, courtesy some excellent bowling by Sri Lankan seamer, Farveez Maharoof. He bowled with good control and made most of the conditions, picking up four wickets in the innings.
In reply, Lancashire gained a useful 188-run, first inning lead, which proved to be decisive in the match.
Opening batsman, Paul Horton, batted brilliantly for his 93 runs. He would have liked to score a ton, but was undone by a good delivery by spinner, Rashid.
Middle-order batsman, Mark Chilton, also did a terrific job for his team, scoring 77 runs. Some contributions by the lower-order batsmen helped the home team to take their total past 300.
Steven Patterson was in good form, as he dismissed four batsmen in the innings. He got good assistance from the new ball partner, Ryan Sidebottom, who ended up with two scalps.
The second innings proved to be much better for Yorkshire, as the top-order batsmen scored runs. Four of the top six players scored half-centuries and the team looked in a very good position.
Sayers was yet again impressive, scoring 75 runs for his team and he did get some support from the other end as well.
Gale batted nicely, scoring 60 runs whereas Gary Ballance and Rashid collected 57 and 52 runs respectively. Things looked good for the visitors, as they were 278 for four at one stage.
However, the lower-order failed miserably and the last six batsmen were sent back to the pavilion after adding just 30 runs to the total. Seasoned spinner, Gary Keedy, was in menacing form, picking up six wickets in the innings.
Lancashire batsmen were given a target of 121 runs and they batted aggressively. Maharoof top scored the second innings with an unbeaten 31, guiding his side to victory.
Rashid took three wickets for Yorkshire, but gave away too many runs at 10 runs per over, which resulted in his team’s defeat.
