Wriddhiman Saha says he was not under pressure against Kochi Tuskers Kerala

Wriddhiman Saha says he was not under pressure against Kochi Tuskers Kerala

The Chennai Super Kings middle-order batsman, Wriddhiman Saha, has said that he was never under pressure of performing well against Kochi Tuskers Kerala in the Indian Premier League (IPL) clash at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on May 18, 2011.
The Bengal wicketkeeper batsman, who had replaced in-form, Shrikant Aniruddha, in the match against Kochi, played a match winning 46-run knock off just 33 deliveries to steer his side to a competitive twenty-over total of 152. The hosts prevailed once again at home winning the match by 11 runs.
"I was never under any kind of pressure. Any given situation suits me fine. My job is to go out there and perform for the team", Wriddhiman told the reporters at the post-match conference.
The 26-year-old Shaktigarh born was selected in India’s squad to tour West Indies next month and quite a few eyebrows were raised over his inclusion in the national side but the glove-man proved a point last night at the Chepauk.
Saha, who is basically a wicketkeeper batsman, did not keep stumps for Chennai. When asked about his fielding position against Kochi last night, he said in the presence of an experienced wicketkeeper, such as,Mahendra Singh Dhoni, he did not find a point to keep the wickets adding he was comfortable fielding in the deep.
"When your captain is the main 'keeper you have to be ready to field at any position. I am enjoying my fielding".
The right-hander, who has experience of one Test and three One Day Internationals (ODI) under his belt, revealed he was instructed by coach, Stephen Fleming, that if they lost some quick wickets, he might be sent for batting up the order.
Talking about his belligerent 46-run knock, Wriddhiman said that initially he had come to the crease with a plan to keep the strike rotating initially and then go for big shots adding that he was lucky the that it went the way he had planned.
The regular India wicketkeeper, MS Dhoni will miss the tour of the Caribbean and Saha is likely to keep the wickets in the West Indies series.
