England’s Test captain, Andrew Strauss,
is delighted to have won the third consecutive Test against India and
said that he is extremely proud to be the captain of the current England
team.
The Poms defeated the Men in Blue in the third
Test of the series by a massive margin of an innings and 242 runs at
Edgbaston. With this victory, England has become the number one ranked
Test team of the world.
The England captain is happy that his team is now
the top team of the world but urged his men to be on their toes in
future as well, because some of the other teams like South Africa and Australia are not far behind, and would be looking
to replace England as the number one Test team.
Strauss said, "There are a number of other teams
that are anxious to have this mantle and to be the No 1 side. I think
it's arrogant to assume that we can just waltz our way and everything's
going to be hunky dory all the time."
Strauss further added that he is lucky to the
leader of some of the most exceptional cricketers of the current era,
who have made the England captain’s job extremely easy. The left-hander considers it as one of the best victories of his
cricketing career but still ranks Ashes as more important than winning against India because of its historical importance.
"It's been a great privilege for me to captain the
side over the past two years. My job's been very easy and that's
because of the individuals involved, not just in the side but the
support staff. It's different. With an Ashes series,
there's so much emotion and rivalry between the two countries,” the
England captain added.
The fourth Test of the series is going to be played from the 18th
of August and the new top team of the world would be looking to win the
last match at the Oval to whitewash India, which is going to be a
historical moment for
English cricket. However, one cannot write off India as it has some match-winners in its ranks.
