Indian captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, has said that his team failed to perform up to the mark in the series against England, and expressed that India played only up to 60 percent of its ability.
He was talking to the media after yet another
disastrous defeat against the home team, where the Men in Blue were
thrashed by an innings and 242 runs. England is now leading the series
by an unassailable margin of 3-0.
India was ranked as the number one ranked Test team of the world according to the ICC Test rankings; however, England has now replaced India as the best team in the longer version of the sport.
Dhoni is extremely disappointed and feels that
nothing has worked for his team during the tour of England so far. India
has faced some fitness problems in the tour but Dhoni has blamed his
experienced batting lineup for the loss.
The Indian captain said, "Nothing has clicked for
us in this Test series. We have only managed to perform upto 60 to 65
per cent of our potential. The key to doing well at the highest level is
the ability to keep the good balls away and
punish the loose deliveries consistently.”
India has lost all the three Test matches by
massive margins and gradually things have gone worse for the Men in
Blue. Dhoni has hailed his bowlers and feels that they have bowled their
heart out in the series so far. According to the
Indian captain, his batsmen should have performed better.
"A loss is a loss. We need to work a lot on both
batting and bowling front. Congratulations to England for being the No. 1
side. The bowlers have sent down around 600 overs and have bowled well
since West Indies. It`s the batting where
we need to put in more effort and play for pride," Dhoni added.
The fourth match of the series is going to start from the 18th
of August at the Oval. India has already lost the series but Dhoni and
company will be playing for pride and would be hoping that they can
avoid a whitewash.
