De Montfort University to award Doctorate degree to MS Dhon

De Montfort University to award Doctorate degree to MS Dhoni – Cricket News Update
De Montfort University of Leicester has announced an honourary Doctorate for the most successful skipper of Team India, Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The degree will be handed over to him on August 29 after a One Day tour match between the Indians and Leicestershire, a County cricket team.
Analysts believe that this degree will prove to be an olive branch for the Indian captain who is much disappointed after his team’s back-to-back defeats against the Poms.
Dhoni is currently leading his team in a bilateral series against the English. The Men in Blue have lost the 4-match npower Test series 0-4. Not only this, they have also lost their hard-won top spot in world Test rankings.
In this situation, Dhoni is much distraught and tense, as the Indian media, fans and former players are censuring him and questioning his leadership skills after this demise.
The university has decided to confer the degree on him in recognition of his efforts to bring home the title of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.
Under Dhoni’s meticulous captaincy, Team India became the first team in the history of the World Cup to lift the coveted Trophy at home. It was their second victory after that of 1983, when Kapil Dev was the captain.
Talking to the media, a Labour MP of Leicester East, Rt Hon Keith, said, “I am delighted that De Montfort University in Leicester has decided to confer an honorary degree on the captain of the World Cup champion team, Mr Dhoni.”
He further elaborated, “India's victory in Mumbai will remain an iconic moment in the history of cricket. I hope that this great honour will be seen as a recognition of that achievement. I want to congratulate De Monfort University on their choice. A first class University has chosen a world class Captain.”
The 30-year-old captain is a wicketkeeper batsman who has played 61 Tests, 186 ODIs and 26 T20Is so far for his national team.
Apart part winning the World Cup, he has led an Indian Premier League (IPL) side, Chennai Super Kings, to claim two league trophies in a row.
