Azhar Mahmood is geared up to perform well in IPL

Out of favour Pakistani all-rounder, Azhar Mahmood, is excited about the opportunity of playing the 5th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and is geared up to deliver the goods for Kings XI Punjab.

Azhar is the only Pakistani player participating in IPL because of the differences between the two cricket boards. However, Azhar holds a British passport now and this is the reason why he can take part in the cash-rich league.

The all-rounder burst into the scene of international cricket in 1996 and made an impression by scoring a hundred against South Africa on his Test debut. He remained an integral part of the national team for many years to come before losing the faith of the selectors after the ICC Cricket World Cup 2006-07.

Azhar is really happy to have been given this chance and he wants to make an impression in the tournament. Since last five years, Azhar has played T20 cricket around the world as a professional cricketer and has done exceedingly well. The all-rounder wants to replicate his performances in IPL as well.

He said, "I'm really excited at playing in the Indian Premier League, it should be a great adventure to play for Kings XI Punjab. My job is to play competitive cricket wherever it is available in the world.”

Azhar recently played the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and represented Dhaka Gladiators. The all-rounder did brilliantly well in the league with both bat and ball and helped his team clinch the title.

The all-rounder further added that he has enjoyed a lot of success in recent T20 events all around the world and hopes that Kings XI Punjab will also perform well in the upcoming event.

"My aim is always to give my all and I will go to India looking to win my fourth Twenty20 title, after previous wins with Surrey, Auckland and Dhaka. I've been fortunate enough to enjoy a lot of success in twenty over cricket and I hope that it can continue in India," Azhar added.

It remains to be seen that Azhar can make an impression on the tournament as the Kings XI Punjab is full of super stars and may well be hard for the all-rounder to break into the playing XI as an overseas player.
