Virender Sehwag, the Indian opening batsman, has revealed that opening alongside Sachin Tendulkar is easier as compared to Gautam Gambhir, with the bowlers focussing on dismissing the Little Master.
Since emerging at the world-stage in 1999, the destructive batsman has been a permanent member of the Indian team in all three formats of the game. The 33-year-old is considered to be one of the most potent openers, able to give his side flying starts.
Being a fan of India's Master Blaster, Sehwag shared that he feels honored playing alongside Tendulkar, who bears most of the team's burden when on the crease.
Sehwag however, takes the responsibility on his shoulders when he opens the batting with the young Gautam Gambhir.
"When I am batting with Tendulkar, there’s very less pressure on me because the opponents are all concentrating on getting him out," the opening batsman said. "With Gautam, the bowlers are worried about getting me out rather than him. Hence I have to be careful. Also, Gautam and I are very good friends, and the communication between us is very good."
While talking about the reasons behind his success at the game’s ultimate level, the Delhi-born cricketer said that he always enjoys the sport and tries to give his best without worrying too much about the outcome.
Handling pressure is the key behind delivering the goods in international cricket in Sehwag’s opinion, and that is possible only when a player comes out with a clear head, without fearing too much about failures.
He mentioned, "The important thing is to be happy, whether you score a zero or a 300. You just go out there and give your best; sometimes you click, sometimes you don’t. One should always be happy, irrespective of what you achieve in a match."
The aggressive batsman also captains IPL franchise Delhi Daredevils, who will play the upcoming Champions League T20 2012, to be held in South Africa in October.
