West Indies fast bowler, Ravi Rampaul, has said that they should restrict Pakistan to less than 250 runs in their first innings, in order to enhance their chances of clinching the series.
Both the teams are up against each other in a two-match Digicel Test series in the Caribbean. West Indies is currently leading the series 1-0 with the second Test in progress at the moment at Saint Kitts.
The visitors won the toss and elected to bat first on a batting track.
However, their batsmen could not make best use of the conditions and
they were reeling at 180 runs for the loss of six wickets at the close
of play on day one.
Rampaul, who took three crucial wickets at the start of the Pakistani
innings, said that the pitch is suitable for batting but it had some juice in it in the initial stages of day one. The fast bowler said that he always knew that he has to give early breakthroughs
to his team so that Pakistani batsmen do not run away with the show.
He said, “The pitch here is usually ideal for the batsmen. In past
matches it has always been a batting track, but it had some extra
moisture in the morning and I was able to get the ball to bounce and
carry. I knew I had to use whatever little advantage
we had in the wicket. I got the result we were looking for as a team”.
“We knew from the start it was going to be a good pitch for batting
but in the back of my mind I was thinking maybe we could get them for
something in the region of 250”, Rampaul added.
The Men in Green also have a strong bowling line up and this Test looks set to be another close low scoring rubber.
